"Relationships and how we communicate are the two most important things in our lives"
Let me welcome you and tell you up front that choosing a therapist is like choosing shoes -- you may have to try some on before you find one that fits. Please read on or go to my website at www.russellwilkie.com and decide if my style seems to fit for you.
I am committed to improving communication and relationships and have specialized in this area for over 20 years. Communication is more at the core of quality relationships than digging into our deep, dark, past issues. What we do in my office is create a way of “being” together – a way of cherishing your beloved through quality interactions.
Research, and years of my own experience, clearly shows that effective therapy is not a set of skills or techniques that I use to change you, but it’s a way of being with everyone in the therapy office. Communication is no different; therefore, what I teach in my office is effective ways of being, sharing and responding. When you communicate from the core of your being (with clarity and compassion) your life and relationships can radically change.
Ways of being with your partner that are helpful:
1.Identify the unmet wants and needs of your partner and yourself and help each other meet them, creating more love to share
2.Speak from your heart
3.Listen in a way that your partner experiences being heard
4.Share your internal experience in a way that can be heard
Some common areas to focus on in couple’s therapy are:
1.Communication (sending/speaking and receiving/listening)
2.Conflict management and reduction of emotional intensity
3.Create a future plan and vision for how you want the relationship to be
4.Create a future plan and vision for how you want your individual life to be
5.Identify how you are when you are at your best and working toward being there more often
6.Building good will toward one another through consistent kindness
